Course Introduction

Petroleum projects require significant capital investment, long development horizons, complex technical assumptions, and exposure to considerable commercial and market uncertainty.

Decisions related to exploration, field development, production facilities, infrastructure, and major project investments must therefore be supported by rigorous economic analysis rather than technical considerations alone.

A strong understanding of petroleum project economics enables professionals to evaluate investment attractiveness, understand project cash flows, assess cost structures, analyze fiscal and commercial factors, and determine how changes in assumptions may influence project value. At the same time, petroleum projects are exposed to uncertainties related to production performance, capital expenditure, operating costs, commodity prices, schedules, technical outcomes, and external market conditions.

This five-day training program provides an integrated framework for evaluating the economics and risks of petroleum projects. It progresses from petroleum project economics and cash-flow modeling to investment appraisal, fiscal and commercial considerations, uncertainty analysis, risk assessment, and investment decision-making.

The program will enable participants to connect technical project assumptions with financial outcomes and make more informed decisions regarding project value, viability, and risk exposure.
