Course Introduction

Projects rarely lose flexibility through one major decision. Instead, commitment builds gradually as scope is defined, designs are selected, resources are reserved, suppliers are engaged, contracts are awarded, schedules are fixed and execution begins. Each choice may appear reasonable in isolation, yet together they progressively reduce the project's ability to change direction without significant cost, delay or disruption. When teams recognize this lock-in too late, they may find themselves defending decisions that would have been reconsidered if better evidence had been required earlier.

BOOST Consulting & Training presents Project Commitment Architecture, a practical program designed to help project professionals manage how and when a project becomes committed. Rather than adding another approval layer, the course develops the ability to identify critical commitment points, distinguish reversible from difficult-to-reverse choices, determine what evidence should exist before commitment, preserve flexibility where uncertainty remains high, and design decision gates that allow projects to move forward confidently without locking themselves prematurely into weak assumptions or costly directions.

Course Objectives

  • Identify how commitments accumulate across the project lifecycle.
  • Distinguish reversible choices from decisions that create significant lock-in.
  • Assess the cost and consequences of premature project commitments.
  • Determine the evidence required before major commitment points.
  • Preserve appropriate flexibility while uncertainty remains unresolved.
  • Design proportionate decision and commitment gates.
  • Build a structured commitment architecture for complex projects.
